The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports the following:
9:37 a.m. — Ethan Murphy McAreavy, 19, of Coralville, was westbound on Highway 34 west of Exit 203 when he lost control of his black 2007 Volkswagen RAB due to snow on the road. The vehicle entered median and struck a sign on the eastbound shoulder before coming to a rest in the median. The driver was uninjured. Disabling damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500. Damage to the Iowa Department of Transportation sign was estimated at $200.
10:28 a.m. — Larry Eugene Parker, 65, of Batavia, was driving a black 2005 Ford F150 pickup eastbound on Highway 34 near Exit 203. Angelita Gonzalez, 43, of Storm Lake, was driving a black 2005 General Motors Yukon Denali behind Parker. Parker slowed due to an emergency vehicle and tow truck on the left shoulder, but Gonzalez was unable to stop due to snow on the road and stuck Parker. Damage to Parker’s pickup was estimated at $750. Damage to Gonzalez’s SUV was estimated at $1,500. Both vehicles were driven away. Neither driver was injured. Gonzalez was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability.
