Important to have healthy school lunches

Dear Rep. Dave Loebsack:

I am a Fairfield High School student, and I am concerned about the nutrition in the school systems right now.

I know that former First Lady Michelle Obama really worked hard to get fresh produce into the school systems, but I am concerned that the hard work she did to get that into place will go to waste with the executive order that president Donald Trump signed to allow for greater flexibility in the nutrition requirements. I think it would be awesome if you would support and work towards continuing healthier lunches into the school systems so that we can continue to eat healthy.

It’s very important that students living in poverty have access to healthy lunches in the school systems. Oftentimes, these lunches can be the only fresh produce that they receive. A healthy child is a child that is ready and willing to learn, and healthy lunches at school help to get kids to that stage. This can also lead to lower health care costs if children are eating healthy at school.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will talk to your colleagues about ensuring healthy and productive American children.
