The Fairfield varsity wrestlers traveled to the Knoxville Invite Dec. 8 and finished in sixth-place with three third-place finishers.

Trojan junior Jonah Cooper received a first-round bye before losing in the semifinals to Centerville’s Matthew Lewis who won the bracket with two pins and a 7-0 decision, including a fall against Cooper 1:29 into the first period. Cooper then recovered to defeat Caden Sales with a fall 5:48 into the consolation semifinals before pinning Jacob Kamrath :59 into the third-place match.
Sophomore Cohyn Roach-Summers won his first match with a pin of Cael Jones of Southeast Polk 1:48 into the first. Roach-Summers than lost to Wil Martin of Moravia in the semifinals in a tough 1-0 decision. The Trojan then defeated Amarreon Sykes of Waterloo West in a 3-0 decision and then pinned Cael Jones again 3:34 into the third-place match.
FHS sophomore Peyton Cline received a first-round bye before losing by fall to Southeast Polk’s Eli Reed 3:52 into the semifinals. Cline than defeated Moravia’s Zac Knapp by fall 1:46 into the second period and then collected an 8-3 decision over Knoxville junior Jax Bellon in the third-place match.
Nicholas Iseman received a first-round bye before losing by fall to Nick Ross of Southeast Polk :37 into the semifinals. The Trojan senior then pinned Matt Logsdon of Centerville in just 1:10 before losing by fall 2:36 into the third-place match.
Junior Caleb Heisel went 0-4 in his five-man bracket with three falls and a hard-fought 9-8 loss by decision in his fifth round match to Eli Hamilton of Knoxville.
Aidan Pohren lost a 10-4 decision in his first-round match before receiving a bye and then losing by fall 5:58 into the consolation semifinals.
